After much planning and consultation with IU Health Bloomington Hospital we have decided to take the following steps to help protect our clients and volunteers from exposure to COVID-19.

Volunteer Cancellations
*  Please report your service cancellations, please use this form:  MOW Absence Reporting Form.

  • If you are ill, please cancel your volunteer service.
  • Starting today, 3/13/2020, we are asking volunteers to please cancel service if you have travel outside the United States within the past 14 days prior to your service date.
  • If you are instructed by a medical professional to self-isolate, please cancel your service.

Changes in delivery procedure

  • Volunteers will deliver small coolers to any clients without one today, 3/13.
  • We will implement a “No Touch” delivery, with volunteers leaving the meals in the cooler, and following up with a check-in phone call to clients on their route.
  • Starting today, each route will carry 2 additional cooler bags in case clients forget to leave their cooler out.

Hospital Delivery
Meals will continue to be picked up at the valet drop-off.  Volunteers will not be able to enter further than the vestibule where the meals are picked up.

Meadowood Delivery
Upon arrival at the pick-up door, please remain outside and call the number on the door to let them know you are there to pick up Meals on Wheels.  They will bring the materials out to you.  When you return, please call and let them know you are returning Meals on Wheels supplies and they will come out to get them.

For reliable information on COVID-19 and recommendations, please visit the Indiana State Department of Health website or CDC website.

Please do not relay rumors or any information disputing CDC or Indiana State Department of Health information to clients.

The Volunteer Recognition Luncheon scheduled for April 21 will be postponed.

Temporary  Volunteer Needs
We are in need of additional temporary subs to help cover any volunteers who are ill, have traveled outside the country, or are instructed to self-isolate.   If you are willing to sub on your route or others, please complete this form to let us know.

Please share the need for temporary sub volunteers with your contacts.  A description of the duties can be found here.   Anyone wishing to be a temporary sub may complete an online application on our website www.bloomingtonmealsonwheels.org or through this link you may share.

If additional arrangements need to be made for picking up meals for distribution, I will share them through email.

Since joining Bloomington Meals on Wheels in August, I have been continually motivated by this wonderful community of volunteers.  Your commitment and service to your Bloomington neighbors is Inspiring.   I hope that together we can help our homebound friends though this challenging time.

Please contact me with questions or concerns.  The office phone is 812-353-2248 or the answering service number is 812-855-8224.

Best regards,
Carrie McHaley, Executive Director
