BLOOMINGTON, IN

August 11, 2009 – Meals on Wheels of Bloomington announced today that it has been awarded a $1000 grant from the Meals on Wheels Association of American (MOWAA) in recognition of the success of its 2009 March for Meals campaign. The grant was announced by MOWAA on July 20 and the grant money will be awarded in September. Bloomington Mayor Mark Kruzan joined more than 1000 Mayors nationwide this past March 22 by delivering meals to Meals on Wheels of Bloomington clients.

“We are enjoying a renewed interest in our organization and its mission,” said MOW executive Director Mary Lang. “As always we have received a positive response from our community, which makes all the work that goes into this worth the effort.” Mayors for Meals is an annual national campaign to raise awareness of senior hunger and to encourage involvement on the part of the local community. The event takes places in March to coincide with the enactment of the provision of the Older Americans Act that includes senior meal programs. Mayors for Meals is a component of March for Meals that encourages the involvement of local mayors.

Meals on Wheels of Bloomington servers more than 800 meals (lunches and dinners) per week to more than 80 clients using a network of more than 250 volunteers.
