Support will help to continue feeding homebound seniors in our community

Bloomington, IN – March 2012 – Bloomington Meals on Wheels announced today that it will be participating in the national 2012 March For Meals campaign.  Bloomington Meals on Wheels’s March For Meals event will include a major fundraising appeal to the Bloomington community and participation in Mayors for Meals on March 21.

“In this tough economy, the food and human contact we provide to our clients in this community is needed more than ever,” said Kathy Romy, Executive Director of Bloomington Meals on Wheels. “We need the community to support our March For Meals events. Our clients are counting on us.  We can’t let them down.”

In partnership with the Bloomington Hospital Foundation, Bloomington Meals on Wheels hopes to raise $10,000 with its March for Meals Campaign.  Funds raised will be used to help feed low income seniors and those who are homebound and disabled in our area who are in need of free and subsidized meals.

To further assist those in need, Meals on Wheels is adding an additional delivery route to expand its services.  The new route would provide home delivered meals for an additional 12 clients who cannot provide meals on their own.  Volunteer drivers are needed for this new route.  This once a month obligation takes approximately 75 minutes.  Please visit the organization’s website at www.bloomingtonmealsonwheels.org or call 812-323-4982 for more information on how to volunteer.

March For Meals is a national campaign held during the month of March, initiated and sponsored by the Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA), to raise awareness of senior hunger and to encourage action on the part of local communities. Senior Nutrition Programs across the United States, like Bloomington Meals on Wheels, promote March For Meals through public events, partnerships with local businesses, volunteer recruitment and fundraising initiatives.
